German Chancellor Angela Merkel informed Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda about her intention to discuss the situation in Belarus with Russian President Vladimir Putin, DW reported.
During phone talks with the Lithuanian leader, the head of the German government expressed gratitude to Lithuania for the help provided to Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, and inquired about her condition and plans for the future.
Angela Merkel informed Gitanas Nauseda that her talks with the Russian President will take place on Tuesday morning. At present, Berlin is also trying to contact Aleksandr Lukashenko via diplomatic channels to resolve the current situation, the website of the Lithuanian president reported.
