The defense lawyers submitted two motions at Tuesday’s court session on the criminal case of retired General Manvel Grigoryan, an ex-MP and former chairman of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union of Armenia.

First, they motioned to allow the fulfillment of the obligations to the budget on the account of the funds of a company.

The court, however, ruled that this motion was unfounded and subject to denial.

The other motion referred to dropping the criminal case on the basis of the serious illness of defendant Grigoryan.

The court adjourned the hearing to consider this motion in the next session.

According to the court decision, Manvel Grigoryan's pretrial measure of arrest was commuted on January 15. He was in critical condition in those days and was at the intensive care unit of a hospital.

Grigoryan's lawyers have motioned the court several times to allow him to be treated abroad, but the court has denied those motions. According to his lawyers, he continues to be in severe health condition.

Manvel Grigoryan is charged with illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, misappropriation of property, tax evasion, waste of state funds, and organizing the stealing of property through extortion.
