The law on combating criminal subculture [in Armenia] works; minister of justice Rustam Badasyan on Wednesday wrote this on Facebook.

“One of the media outlets published an article today, entitled ‘They cannot prove in court who the ‘thieves in law’ are,’ noting that based on the law aimed at combating criminal subculture [in Armenia], submitted by me in the NA [National Assembly], ‘in real life, the law enforcement system [in the country] is unable to prove in court who the ‘thieves in law’ or the criminal authorities are in order to punish.’

Let me remind the author of this publication that this is not the first case of application of this law.

Therefore, this law works in practice, and the criticisms voiced at the stage of the draft law that it will not work in practice were fabrications.

The law has had very little time for practical application, albeit it is already clear that there is no problem at the level of law; it stems from international track-record, and there is no obstacle at that level. I am confident there will be new exposures in the near future," Badasyan added, in particular.
