China and the US have agreed to hold trade talks in the coming days to assess the progress of a Phase 1 trade deal six months after it went into effect in February, Reuters reported referring to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

Ministry spokesman Gao Feng made this statement during a weekly online briefing.

However, Feng did not provide further details.

Earlier, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said that no new high-level trade talks between the countries were planned. Although both parties are in touch in connection with the implementation of the first stage of the agreement.

The trade agreement between the United States and China was reached on January 15 and was seen as a breakthrough in relations between the two largest economies in the world, which were in a long economic confrontation.

However, recently, relations between the countries have soured again amid the COVID-19 pandemic and China's introduction of Hong Kong's national security law.
