President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko’s supporters and opponents have gathered at Independence Square in central Minsk, RIA Novosti reports.

A few hundred people have gathered at the square. The members of the opposition can be spotted with white-red-white flags, and the supporters — with the Belarusian national flags, Military Air Force flags and Georgiyev ribbons. The opposition’s supporters have gathered near the statue of Lenin and the road leading to the government house.

Lukashenko’s supporters gathered at Independence Square and then marched towards Victory Square, screaming “Belarus” and applauding on the way. After reaching Victory Square, they formed a circle and declared that they support peace.

During the march, Lukashenko’s supporters were greeted by the President’s opponents. They got into a dispute over politics and the past elections, but the march was peaceful.
