Germany, France, and the UK do not support the US demand to launch a mechanism to restore sanctions against Iran in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2231, DW reported.

The ministers noted that Washington's actions are incompatible with their current efforts in support of the Iranian deal, which is the key to the nuclear deal with Iran.
Berlin, London, and Paris recalled that Washington ceased to be a party to the Iranian deal after withdrawing from the agreement on May 8, 2018, and therefore cannot activate the sanctions mechanism. The current issue of systematic violations by Iran of its obligations under this document should be resolved, rather, via dialogue, the statement further says.

The ministers also called on everyone to refrain from steps that would deepen the divisions in the Security Council or negatively affect its work.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell noted the same adding that the United States cannot be considered as a member state of the Iranian deal for the purpose of a possible revision of the sanctions provided for in the resolution.
