As it is known, Vahram Avetisyan, a candidate for a judge of the Constitutional Court nominated by the government, had submitted a petition to withdraw his consent to being elected to this position, Past daily of Armenia writes.

Avetisyan had written, in particular, on his Facebook page: "It became clear to me from the meeting with the MPs of the [majority] My Step faction [in parliament] and further discussions that some of the MPs’ approaches and ideas on the role of the Constitutional Court, depoliticization and independence of the Constitutional Court judge are not in line with my approaches and ideas, and in some cases—also unacceptable for me."

According to Past newspaper’s information, in fact, among the many issues, the issues related to the March 1 [2008 tragedy in Yerevan] case were predominant [in the aforesaid meeting]. The My Step MPs transparently made it clear to Avetisyan that they would vote for his candidacy if he assured that he would act "within the line" of [Constitutional Court Judge] Vahe Grigoryan. Otherwise, he will not be elected.

Avetisyan, however, noted that he is a professional lawyer and it is not serious to expect a decision from the beginning regarding any case, each case should be studied in detail and a decision should be made accordingly, and not guided by a biased attitude.

And this main controversy became the reason for Avetisyan to withdraw his consent.
