Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov says Moscow views President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko’s proposal to implement constitutional reforms as prospective, Interfax reports.

“During his recent meetings with personnel, President Lukashenko has stated that he favors dialogue several times and has even made an important proposal, that is, a proposal for dialogue over constitutional reforms. Russia believes this is the path that is rather prospective,” Lavrov said.

Massive protests against the August 9 presidential elections have been held in Belarus for nearly two weeks now.

Based on the data confirmed by the Central Electoral Commission, 80.1% of voters cast their votes for Lukashenko, and 10.12% voted for Lukashenko’s main opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.

Last Monday, Lukashenko viewed the holding of new presidential elections as possible after adoption of a new Constitution.
