YEREVAN. – I believe the Yerevan State University (YSU) Board of Trustees is willing to make every effort to develop the university and have a better situation; I am confident that we will move in that direction. Zhanna Andreasyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, on Tuesday stated this in a conversation with journalists in front of YSU—and after the meeting of the aforesaid board.
The deputy minister informed that the matter of electing the YSU rector was also discussed at this meeting. "Taking into account the fact that we already had a process for electing a rector, which started before the state of emergency, a decision was made to send an inquiry to the Ministry of Justice and the Faculty of Law to find out which approach is more legitimate: announcing a new competition [for the YSU rector], or the continuation of the competition already started." she said.
And asked whether there is a preferred YSU rector’s candidate for the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Andreasyan responded as follows: "The preferred candidate is the one who is acceptable for the university from the point of view of the university's development. From this point of view, the ministry is one of the most interested structures that our universities develop, be competitive, be able to have their place and role in the international arena as well. We are ready to support anyone who sees their work in that direction."
