The United Arab Emirates canceled a scheduled meeting with the United States and Israel over a disagreement amid a possible sale of American F-35 fighters to a Gulf country, which was opposed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Axios reported, citing three unnamed sources.

US President Donald Trump announced last week that an agreement to buy the UAE fighters was under consideration, and a US Department of Defense spokesman hinted that a deal could be reached in six months.

The US has sold the F-35 aircraft to its allies, including South Korea, Japan, and Israel, but sales to the Persian Gulf warrant a deeper analysis due to US policies to maintain Israel's military advantage in the Middle East.

According to the portal, the UAE has postponed a scheduled meeting with the US and Israel after Netanyahu said he was aware of a proposed arms deal between Washington.

Axios noted that the Emirati wanted to send a message from Washington, as the UAE believes Netanyahu's statement violates understanding between them - after their historic announcement of the normalization of diplomatic relations.
