US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo meets the new Sultan of Oman.

This is the last meeting as part of his tour of the Middle Wotosk countries, the purpose of which was to promote a deal on the normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE, concluded with the mediation of the United States, AP reported.

Pompeo's plane landed in Muscat, the capital of Oman, and he went to meet with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. Pompeo later tweeted that the parties spoke of the importance of building regional peace, stability, and prosperity through the joint Gulf Cooperation Council.

The six-nation GCC has been split by a decades-long boycott of the Qatar councilor by his counterparts Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Two other GCC members, Kuwait and Oman, have pushed for reconciliation between countries, like the US amid the Trump administration's policy of maximum pressure on Iran.

The Omani state news agency described Pompeo's visit as a short visit to the sultanate, without specifying what was discussed.

Pompeo has already visited Israel, Sudan, Bahrain, and the UAE.
