I believe the most important meaning of this is that we do not forget our history. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during Saturday’s ceremony of posthumously awarding the highest title of Hero of Artsakh to first chairman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) Supreme Council—former parliament—Artur Mkrtchyan and Artsakh Defense Army Captain Armenak Urfanyan, in Artsakh.

"Of course, we look to the future every day, every hour, but in order to build that future properly, we must also assess the past correctly.

Today's event is accompanied and harmonized with yesterday's event at Sardarapat [Memorial in Armenia]. You say that Sardarapat is a very symbolic place for the history of our people, for the history of our liberation war. [But Artsakh capital city] Stepanakert is no less symbolic place. Here we also have a symbol: this whole of, this symbol of formation of the First Republic and the formation of the Third Republic [of Armenia], the formation of a free Artsakh, which is very important.

We must assess the values of our past, the values of our new and modern history. Yesterday [Armenia Armed Forces officer] Ruben Sanamyan received the title of National Hero of the Republic of Armenia. The national hero of the Republic of Armenia was awarded yesterday and today Captain Sanamyan is fulfilling his duty in the defense of the homeland. This is a new symbol, a new way and a new perception that values our heroes of the past. Our soldiers and officers who are going to heroic deed today have the heroes of the past right before their eyes," Pashinyan said.
