YEREVAN. – Who says that the Constitutional Court will be dissolved? It is a wrong direction because no body will be dissolved. Minister of justice Rustam Badasyan on Monday stated this in a talk with journalists in the National Assembly of Armenia, and referring to the fact that as a result of the constitutional amendments, it the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation could merge and a Supreme Court could be established.

"There is an issue of concept here, and the issue should be discussed within that framework. Second, yes, the [constitutional reform] commission has decided to merge the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation, but the commission is an advisory body that proposes. Yes, there is a possibility that the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation will merge. But the model of the Constitutional Court should have been introduced with the Constitutional amendments adopted back in 2015, and we have just corrected the mistakes," he said.

And asked whether there shall be a completely new staff in the Supreme Court to be created, or judges of the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation can be included there, the minister responded: "The constitutional reform commission has not yet discussed the procedure by which the Supreme Court should be formed. I believe there should be a mechanism that will significantly increase public trust toward the court instance being newly created [in Armenia]."
