EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that no one is observing the embargo on arms supplies to Libya, Interfax reported.

During a visit to Cairo, he said that the European Union is trying to control the embargo, but is well aware that the flow of arms continues to reach Libya. He believes that it will be very difficult to end the military conflict without stopping the supply of weapons.

To counteract embargo violators, the European Union launched the IRINI naval operation.

Borrell met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and thanked for the efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Libya.

The military conflict in Libya has continued since the end of 2011 when President Muammar Gaddafi was assassinated. An internationally recognized government, based in Tripoli, and forces led by General Khalifa Haftar are fighting for power.
