The President of Armenia nominated Artur Vagharshyan for judge of the Constitutional Court in the prescribed time limit, and we have no other comment. This is what Assistant to the President of Armenia Hasmik Petrosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, touching upon the statement that deputy of the My Step faction of the National Assembly Lilit Makunts made today in parliament, stating that her faction doesn’t know why Artur Vagharshyan was nominated, taking into consideration the discussion and voting previously held in parliament.
“Nevertheless, our faction will listen to the candidate and will express our position through a secret ballot,” Makunts stated.
President Armen Sarkissian had nominated Artur Vagharshyan for judge of the Constitutional Court in the past as well, but on May 29, 2019, with 30 votes ‘in favor’ and 53 votes ‘against’, the National Assembly didn’t elect Artur Vagharshyan. It should be mentioned that the My Step faction had met with two of the three candidates for judge of the Constitutional Court, but not Artur Vagharshyan.
