German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier proposed to hold an official mourning ceremony for the COVID-9 victims in Germany in an interview with the publications of the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) group.
According to him, it is necessary to support people in their mourning and express sympathy to their relatives.
Germany has recorded 9,300 COVID-19 deaths.
Steinmeier said he would discuss the initiative with the Bundestag, Bundesrat, federal government, and federal constitutional court to agree on a suitable time and format for the commemoration, DW reported.
