The Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia has approved the standards for psychological testing of contenders for judge candidates and the new procedure for conducting testing, and the psychological attributes of contenders for judge candidates will be assessed on the basis of the standards and procedure, as reported Armenian News-NEWS.am after exploring the regulatory decision of the Supreme Judicial Council.

According to the new procedure, the self-control, integrity and behavior of the contender for the judge candidate, ability to use authority moderately, communication skills and other attributes will be assessed after psychological testing. The specified attributes will be assessed through psychological tests that are considered acceptable and applied in international practice and will help check the contender’s emotional intelligence, moral judgment and value system. The necessary conditions for testing must be ensured by the Ministry of Justice, and testing is conducted through an electronic system. The psychological tests included in the program are selected by the Supreme Judicial Council.

The results of the tests are advisory and are provided to the contender and the Supreme Judicial Council.

Armenian News-NEWS.am asked member of the Supreme Judicial Council Grigor Bekmezyan who will select the psychological tests envisaged for the contenders for judge candidates and under what principle. Bekmezyan stated that, in this regard, the Supreme Judicial Council is cooperating with the Ministry of Justice, which will obtain the internationally licensed program for psychological testing. He added that the purpose of psychological testing is to clarify whether the person is capable of serving as a judge or not.
