China has imposed restrictions on the personnel of the US embassy and US consulates in mainland China and Hong Kong in response to measures announced by the US earlier this month, Reuters reported.

Washington said last week that before visiting university campuses or hosting cultural events with over 50 people outside of missions, Washington will require senior Chinese diplomats to obtain State Department approval, which it says was in response to China's restrictions on US diplomats.
