YEREVAN. – The National Assembly is now debating on Artur Vagharshyan's candidacy for the post of a judge of the Constitutional Court of Armenia; his respective candidacy was nominated by President Armen Sarkissian.

This candidacy, however, caused dissatisfaction among some members of the majority My Step faction in parliament. In particular, they asked Emil Tarasyan, the head of the presidential staff, why the President had nominated Vagharshyan yet again.

Tarasyan responded that the President had used his constitutional right and nominated Vagharshyan because the latter had again expressed a wish to become a judge of the Constitutional Court. "Permit me to note that if one of the three candidates who expresses a wish to become a judge of the Constitutional Court has already been nominated for that position twice, it would be unfair to also deprive the other candidates of such a right," Tarasyan said.

His response, however, raised even more questions and caused dissatisfaction among some MPs of the ruling bloc.
