First President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev has welcomed the establishment of ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh and has called on the sides to continue the negotiations, TASS reports.

“I support it [the ceasefire]. It’s good that the first step was taken. It’s good that Russia helped. But the important thing is that it doesn’t end with this,” Gorbachev said in response to TASS’s request to comment on the sides’ ceasefire agreement.

According to him, it’s necessary to reach an agreement on the paths for a settlement ‘of this very complicated issue’, ‘it is necessary to solve the issue step-by-step, gradually’.
