During today’s briefing, representative of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Artsrun Hovhannisyan said Azerbaijan refuses to work with the International Committee of the Red Cross with respect to the prisoners of war.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense had reported that there are at least two prisoners of war. Former Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan said two servicemen of the Armed Forces of Armenia — Areg Sargsyan and Narek Amirjanyan — became prisoners of war during the large-scale war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in the early hours of September 27. On October 11, advocates addressed the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of the members of the family of the servicemen.

“I can’t provide any information about their condition. Azerbaijan isn’t working with the International Committee of the Red Cross and isn’t transmitting information,” Hovhannisyan said. He informed that there are also prisoners of war in Armenia, but didn’t provide any details about the number of prisoners of war and their location.
