Twenty-one deputies and fifteen senators of the Congress of Spain have issued a joint statement condemning the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia and Artsakh, as reported Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Vahe Enfiajyan on his Facebook page.

Enfiajyan also posted the text of the statement in Spanish on his Facebook page.

The statement particularly states the following:

“On September 27, 2020, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, with the support of terrorist organizations from Turkey, launched an aggressive war against the Republic of Artsakh.

The large-scale armed attack of Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh is accompanied by serious violations of international humanitarian norms. In particular, the armed Turkish-Azerbaijani groups are deliberately bombarding cities, towns and civilian objects in Artsakh in order to intimidate and destroy the peaceful population. Not only civilians, but also reporters have been wounded.

On September 29, we saw photos obtained from Armenia’s official sources showing how the Turkish Air Force’s F-16 fighter jet, with the base at Ganja airport, struck the Armenian Air Force’s Su-25 fighter jet, which was overseeing the territory of the Republic of Armenia in the skies. This is a brilliant example of Turkish interference.

The Azerbaijani troops used cluster bombs and other types of arms of different calibers, which is a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

Ignoring the calls of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group and the international community for cessation of fire and guided by the purpose of resolving the conflict by force, Azerbaijan and Turkey continue the hostilities to this day.

We call on the international community to recognize the right of Artsakh to self-determination so that the right of the citizens of Artsakh to live and develop peacefully is guaranteed.

In the current situation, the international recognition of Artsakh is the only active mechanism to restore peace and security in the region. For this reason, we are addressing the Congress and Senate of Spain, which has a certain weight in the international community, to call on all democrats to unite and to call on human rights activists to prevent new crimes against humanity.

We resolutely condemn the aggression of Turkey and Azerbaijan against Armenia and Artsakh, especially the bombardments of the population and civilian infrastructures in Artsakh, as well as the interference of Turkey and the involvement of mercenaries from Syria and Libya, which is already a confirmed fact.”
