Russian Senator Aleksey Pushkov commented on the positions of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, noting the possible scenarios for the future development of this conflict.

"The positions of Baku and Yerevan are irreconcilable, which was obvious also even without the statements of [Azerbaijani President Ilham] Aliyev and [Armenian PM Nikol] Pashinyan. Their 'red lines' mutually destroy each other as long as there is no 'neutral layer,' no hint of compromise between them," Pushkov said in Telegram.

According to him, in this case the UN is powerless, as the two important principles of international law—territorial integrity and the right to self-determination—"have clashed here in an uncompromising struggle." "The priority of one of these two principles is ensured in each specific case through the ratio of forces. A delayed resolution of the issue is also possible in the case when the settlement by force is impossible, or is blocked by stronger powers, as, for example, in the case of Transnistria. Karabakh can again become an example of such a delayed decision," the Russian senator concluded.
