UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres fully supports the call of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs for an immediate ceasefire in the Karabakh conflict zone for humanitarian purposes, agreed in Moscow on October 10 and subsequently reaffirmed in Paris on October 17 and in Washington on October 25.  The appeal is contained in the statement of the co-chairs at the end of their meetings in Geneva with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the UN Secretary General said in a statement.
The Secretary-General remains deeply concerned about reports of continued hostilities, which continue to affect the civilian population. It condemns all such attacks and reiterates that, in accordance with international humanitarian law, both sides are obliged to exercise the utmost care to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure during military operations.
He calls on the parties to fulfill in good faith and urgently the concrete steps that they agreed to take with the assistance of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, as well as their previous commitments. He urges the parties to continue substantive dialogue and intensify efforts with the assistance of the co-chairs to achieve a peaceful and sustainable settlement of the conflict, the statement reads.
