The National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS) has addressed the international academic community with a message calling on the community to condemn the large-scale war unleashed by Azerbaijan and Turkey against the people of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) and urge the respective countries to recognize the independence of Artsakh.
The message particularly states the following: “The terrorist war unleashed by Turkey and Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and its peaceful population continues. Ignoring the calls for ceasefire and clearly declaring that their ultimate goal is to empty Artsakh of the Armenians, the alliance of Turks, Azerbaijanis and terrorist mercenaries continues its attack on Artsakh through the use of various types of bombs and arms prohibited under international norms, several thousands of special detachments from Turkey and Pakistan, as well as terrorist mercenaries from Syria.
There is not one village in Artsakh that has not been shelled. There are hundreds of victims and injured among the civilian population. Although it signed under the document on ceasefire at a high level, Azerbaijan failed to stay true to its commitments.
Artsakh and all Armenians are showing resistance, but Azerbaijan continues its barbarities by using also the arms of Turkey, which is a NATO member.
In the created situation, international recognition of Artsakh may become the only option and active mechanism for restoration of peace and security in the region.
The NAS of Armenia calls your attention to the humanitarian disaster and calls on urging the high-ranking officials of your respective countries to recognize the independence of the Republic of Artsakh as the only possible way to suspend the heavy crimes being committed against the peaceful population of Artsakh and rule out the perpetration of a new genocide 100 years after the genocide perpetrated by the Turks.
We would especially like to stress that only humanistic tendencies underlie our message.”
The message has been addressed to the sciences academies of Russia, the US, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Great Britain, Brazil, Iran, China, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Argentina, Slovenia, Poland, Athens, Cyprus, Israel, Lisbon, Ukraine, Austria, Estonia, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, India, Finland, Latvia, Japan, Belgium and Georgia, the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS), All European Academies (ALLEA), the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the Royal Society, the International Center for Relativistic Astrophysics Network (ICRANet) and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT).
