YEREVAN. – The import of not all Turkish goods will be restricted in Armenia as of January 1; only of final consumption goods. The Minister of Economy, Tigran Khachatryan, stated about this Friday in a talk with reporters in the National Assembly.

According to him, the companies which to some extent also use products of Turkish origin in organizing their productions will be able to continue their production without disrupting that process.

"Having been in this business for a long time, our entrepreneurs know quite well where their alternative markets are. (…). We also said that if there are small businesses that will need compensation on this matter, we have appointed a team of corresponding experts who will listen to, help that the people face as few problems as possible during the reconstruction of those businesses," the minister said.

He added that in case of switching to alternative markets, there will be no big price changes for Armenia’s entrepreneurs.

Khachatryan expressed confidence that no price rises are expected in Armenia as a result of the forthcoming ban on Turkish goods. "There can be no price rises for one simple reason: Our estimates show that the final consumption goods that were imported from Turkey did not exceed [a mere] $50 million per year. (…) They have an insignificant share [in Armenia’s economy]. Therefore, if one small quantity is replaced by another small quantity, it will not affect the balanced market price," Tigran Khachatryan explained.
