President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian today received outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia Vincenzo Del Monaco.

The head of state highly appreciated Ambassador Del Monaco’s work and expressed gratitude to him for his personal contribution and efforts for the development and deepening of Armenian-Italian relations.

During the meeting, the parties also talked about the military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan and Turkey against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and emphasized that the conflict can only be solved through negotiations.

The parties also touched upon the current level and potential for development of the Armenian-Italian relations and stated that the historical and cultural ties between the two friendly peoples serve as a good basis for the establishment of closer ties.

Ambassador Vincenzo Del Monaco expressed gratitude to President Sarkissian for his tremendous contribution to bilateral relations. “I really regret that I have to leave Armenia when there is so much suffering and human deaths and when the war is so close. I am taking with me the Armenian trace of your friendship and wonderful people and will be leaving with so much sadness,” the Ambassador said.
