Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan today participated in the remote Conference of Ministers of Justice hosted by the Greek chairmanship, the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia reported.

Badasyan congratulated the Greek authorities on assuming the Chairmanship in the Council of Europe and presented Armenia’s agenda for democratic reforms, adding that it is aimed at increasing public confidence, raising the level of independence, impartiality and accountability of the judiciary and ensuring unhindered access to justice.

“One of the main challenges for our reforms is the pandemic, but this doesn’t mean that Armenia won’t implement its agenda. The next and significant challenge is the large-scale military aggression that two member states of the Council of Europe have unleashed against Nagorno-Karabakh which is on ethnic ground, is targeted at the civilian population, and there are terrorist mercenaries engaged in this process. Many reputable international human rights activists have assessed the situation as ‘a risk of genocide’ on the spot,” Badasyan said and viewed the fact that jihadist terrorists are being brought from Syria and Libya to the region through the active involvement of another member state.

In this context, Badasyan stressed that sometimes we witness rapid responses and targeted actions when there are certain disputed issues in member states of the Council of Europe and, unfortunately, very often we see member states think twice and not take action. He also called on the member states to take action when human life, the most important value, is under attack.
