During the session of the Council of Heads of States Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani said Iran won’t spare efforts for de-escalation of the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
Rouhani stated that Iran, being a neighbor of Armenia and Azerbaijan and taking into consideration several common characteristics with the peoples of the region in terms of history, expresses satisfaction with the decision of the two countries to put an end to the military conflict through Russia’s mediation and to launch the process of diplomatic settlement. Rouhani voiced hope that the two countries will be able to settle all the differences in a peaceful atmosphere and within the scope of international law.
“For this purpose, Iran had presented a plan for establishment of ceasefire and peace and had led intensive negotiations with the conflicting parties and other countries. We won’t spare any efforts to establish de-escalation and sustainable security, as well as stability and peace in the region,” he stated.
