In an interview with Armenian Public Television, Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinyan said the authorities will act very tough to suspend any attempt of coup and added that the incumbent authorities will step down and new authorities will be elected, if necessary.

“I would like to remind that when there were domestic political riots in Azerbaijan in the 1990s, the Armenian army took advantage of those domestic political issues rather effectively. I would like to assure all political forces that are trying to mix things up during martial law that the authorities won’t be tolerant in this regard. The Republic of Armenia and Armenian statehood are above everything and everyone’s ambitions. All the domestic political processes will be considered later. If necessary, the incumbent authorities will step down and new authorities will be elected, but I personally and my team can’t allow attempts of a coup,” Avinyan said.
