The operations being carried out around Shushi were dynamic, but changes were taking place rapidly. This is what Minister of Defense of Armenia Davit Tonoyan said in an interview with Armenian Public Television.

“There was intensive shelling for 24 hours. The city of Shushi was besieged and surrounded, but the heroic battle continued. After a while, we were at an advantage. Our forces were in Shushi on the last day, but the presence of those forces didn’t mean that they were influential in Shushi in terms of reinstating control,” he said.

Asked to comment on the criticism that the Ministry of Defense wasn’t telling the whole truth, Tonoyan said the Ministry of Defense presented the situation very sincerely. “The Armed Forces presented the right information. I don’t accept the opinion that we didn’t provide sufficient information,” he said.

According to Tonoyan, the Armed Forces of Armenia came out strong from this situation.

Touching upon the agreement signed by the Prime Minister of Armenia, Tonoyan said it was the maximum that could have been achieved.

“In terms of the deployment of peacekeepers of the Russian Federation, this was the best option, and if you read the document carefully, you will see that this concerns peacekeepers the most, and we are thankful to Russia for the support,” Tonoyan said.
