I received unlawful orders, but didn't execute them. This is what Armenia’s ex-police chief Valeriy Osipyan told reporters while participating in the rally held with the demand for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation at Freedom Square today.

Asked if Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation is the only possible path, Osipyan said anything is possible.

Touching upon Pashinyan’s statement that the destructive groups of the former authorities are the ones demanding his resignation, Osipyan said there are good and bad people among the former authorities.

Asked if he had received unlawful orders during his term of service, Osipyan said he had received them, but hadn’t executed them. “I have small children and am concerned about their future, and I am here because everyone is here as well,” he said.

After shift of power in 2018, Osipyan, who was deputy chief of police of Yerevan at the time, was appointed Chief of Police of Armenia upon the recommendation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and by the decree of the President of Armenia on May 10, 2018. On September 18, 2019, he was dismissed, and the same day, he was appointed Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister, and on October 8, by the decision of Nikol Pashinyan, he was dismissed from that position.
