The legislature of the Uruguayan state of Montevideo has recognized the independence of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). As reported by Armenpress, the legislative body unanimously approved the respective resolution.

The published text states that the agreement signed by Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia is not a result of credible balanced negotiations approved by the UN, but a result of illegal use of force which forces to give up lands that are historical heritage and Armenians have been living there for millennia..

In particular, it is noted that the legislative body of Montevideo calls on the international community to respect the status of Artsakh as an independent state, and this is the true path to a peaceful settlement, which will ensure lasting peace for both Artsakh and Armenia.

To note, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday night signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities in and around Artsakh. Accordingly, Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities. But this statement also stipulates the handover of part of Artsakh lands to Azerbaijan.
