Moscow is waiting for information from Baku on the investigation into the incident with the Russian helicopter over the skies of Armenia, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, according to TASS.

"There are very close ways of communication between Russia and Azerbaijan; there is no need for additional channels here," the Kremlin spokesman said, when asked whether there are ways to exchange information between the two countries in connection with the case of this helicopter that was shot down by Azerbaijan.

"The Azerbaijani side announced quite operatively that a thorough investigation will be carried out, the perpetrators will be found and punished," Peskov said. "We will certainly wait for information on this issue."

At the same time, the Russian presidential press secretary considered irrelevant the question of whether Russia trusts Azerbaijan in terms of the particulars of this investigation.

A Russian military helicopter, which was accompanying a convoy of the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri, Armenia, was shot down Monday in Armenia’s airspace. Two Russian servicemen were killed and another was injured. The helicopter was shot down more than 100 km away from the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict zone. Azerbaijan claimed responsibility for the incident, saying it had "mistakenly" shot down the helicopter, apologized, and expressed readiness to pay compensation to Russia.
