Russia has been, is and will remain the sole and irreplaceable guarantor of security in the South Caucasus. This is what deputy of the Prosperous Armenia faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Arman Abovyan said during today’s rally held at Freedom Square.

According to him, Russia hasn’t left and won’t leave, even though Turkish and Syrian Islamists were trying to push the country out of the region. “Russia will and must stay in the South Caucasus since there can only be one moderator in the region. Besides that, Russia has been, is and remains a fraternal country and a country that has been the main stabilizing factor for at least centuries,” Abovyan said, adding that Armenia’s authorities need to bear responsibility for everything they have done.

“The authorities had two years to not only get ready, but also to take military and diplomatic steps to prevent the disaster. I believe there is no leader in history who has signed a capitulation agreement and stayed in power. As far as the trilateral statement by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan is concerned, the main issues concerned Russia’s mission as a mediator,” the deputy stressed.
