The issue of what economic potential we have, what weapons potential we have, etc. in the event of a possible outbreak of hostilities was discussed several times at the Security Council session. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this Monday at the special session of the National Assembly of Armenia, responding to the MPs' questions.

"In general, we have known our strength, and in the summer of 2020 our assessment was that we can successfully confront Azerbaijan. We also realized that there are risks of Turkey and terrorists being involved in the process.

Why no action was taken to prevent the [recent Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)] war? Because that action was that the Republic of Armenia had to agree to the ‘territories for peace’ formula. In this situation, our position was that we must consolidate our forces in order to withstand a possible attack," he said, adding that an agenda of preventing the war at all costs has never been on Armenia’s agenda. In other words, as per the PM, there should have been an acceptable cost to prevent the war, but this did not happen.
