The Russian peacekeepers have accompanied the Azerbaijani army’s first convoy from Shushi to Karmir Shuka village in Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)], TASS reported.

The convoy comprised army personnel in three military trucks. According to the peacekeepers, it went without weapons.

The Russian escorting was carried out by two armored vehicles.

The representatives of the Russian peacekeepers, however, did not clarify the objective of this convoy.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the bulk of this Russian peacekeeping unit is the units of the 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade (peacekeeping) of the Central Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. Russia's observation posts are located along the Nagorno-Karabakh line of contact and along the Lachin corridor connecting Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. The peacekeeping operation command is located in the Nagorno-Karabakh capital Stepanakert. The situation is monitored around the clock.

On November 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities in and around Artsakh. Accordingly, Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities. But this statement also stipulates the handover of part of Artsakh lands to Azerbaijan.
