Six villages in Askeran Region of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) have already passed under the control of Azerbaijan, and two more will pass as well.

In a conversation with Sputnik Armenia, deputy head of the Askeran Administration, Armen Mangasaryan, said that a total of 2,733 people lived in those eight villages, and all of whom were now left homeless.

Now the residents of Armenakavan and Ukhtasar villages are urgently evacuating their property, but not all of them have moved yet; there are transportation issues. According to Mangasaryan, cars come to and go from the villages several times a day with state support, but there are still things and people to move.

The residents of the eight lost villages of Askeran were initially planned to be accommodated in other communities of the region, but problems arose with respect to housing. According to the deputy head of the Askeran administration, the people who have become homeless are twice as many as the vacant apartments in the area.

According to him, he talks on the phone with Askeran residents now in Armenia for 20-22 hours a day, but all the same, many of them are returning to Artsakh and asking to resolve the housing issue.

On November 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities in and around Artsakh. Accordingly, Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities. But this statement also stipulates the handover of part of Artsakh lands to Azerbaijan.
