Only Russian peacekeepers can guarantee the security of the population of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). This is what first Ombudsperson of Armenia, human rights activist Larisa Alaverdyan said during today’s press conference.

“However, the results of peacekeeping operations vary based on international practice. They can be tragic and rather successful for peacekeepers and the people for whom everything is being done,” Alaverdyan said.

She recalled that France is currently stating that it might consider the possibility of recognition of Artsakh. “This is reassuring, but can this be a guarantee? Now the Armenian government says Russia didn’t let Armenia recognize Artsakh. This is a lie. There have been at least five cases when it was Armenia’s duty to recognize Artsakh, and this could have become a key factor for security,” Alaverdyan stated, adding that it’s still not too late for recognition.
