The Australian government will spend AU $ 1 billion ($ 770 million) developing new naval weapons, including long-range missiles and torpedoes, Reuters reported referring to the country's defense ministry.

As part of the modernization of Australia's defense capabilities, the Australian Navy with be equipped with modern long-range anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air missiles, torpedo, and other weapons to maintain control off the Australian coast in the coming decade.

These new defensive capabilities will become a deterrent that will ensure stability and security in the region.

The increase in defense spending will be in line with the Australian Navy's modernization program. The defense ministry plans to use these funds to develop long-range anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as ground-based anti-ship missiles with a range of 1,500 km.
