The deputy prime ministers of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are scheduled to meet in Moscow on Wednesday to discuss the construction of transport communications in the South Caucasus; this was reported to RBC by two sources in the governments of Russia and Armenia.

Alexei Overchuk from the Russian side, Mher Grigoryan from the Armenian side and Shahin Mustafayev from the Azerbaijani side will take part in these talks, a Russian diplomatic source said.

Their main task is to decide what needs to be built—or restored—to fully “defrost” transport communications in the region.

The deputy PM shall discuss several possible projects, in particular, the construction of a railway via Armenia, and which will provide a link between Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan, as well as between Armenia and Russia.

In addition, the Russian, Armenian, and Azerbaijani deputy PMs will discuss the proposal to provide a railway connection between Armenia and Iran via Nakhchivan, RBC’s interlocutor said.
