YEREVAN. – The Alliance Party will run in the snap parliamentary elections in Armenia with its own candidate for prime minister. Its chairman—and MP—Tigran Urikhanyan stated this during the party congress on Saturday.

"If the people decide that there should be elections, Alliance will run in the elections with its own team and supporters. And since this is the only nationwide election, the Alliance will go with its own [electoral] list and its own candidate for prime minister," he said.

Urikhanyan said that in the future the party will convene a rally, during which the people will decide how to change the government. "If there will be a public demand that there should be elections, we will not wait for the [current] government to hold elections; we shall generate that action ourselves," he said.

According to him, the current government needs to step down because not only did it not fulfill its promises, but also caused Armenia to suffer a disgraceful defeat in the recent Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war. "The current authorities have had almost 3 years, (…) but this disgraceful defeat ended it all. The government, the prime minister, is accountable for all this, and the accountability for all this must be expressed through resignation," Tigran Urikhanyan said.
