The US intends to involve Japan in the creation of a multinational fund designed to finance the development and distribution of the 5G communication systems to oust Chinese products from the market.
The participation of the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand is also expected, the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri reported on Monday, citing American sources.
The size of the fund is unknown but may reach up to $ 500 million.
Yomiuri reported that the Japanese government is in consultation with Washington and London on cooperation in ousting the Chinese corporation Huawei from the 5G mobile equipment market.
A general agreement in this regard was reached at separate consultations between Tokyo representatives and the relevant US and UK departments held in the fall of 2020.
