Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan today received Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Armenia Nico Schermers.

Greeting the guest, the Deputy Prime Minister attached importance to the opening of the Embassy of the Netherlands. Ambassador Schermers expressed gratitude for the reception and stressed his willingness to not spare efforts for the strengthening and deepening of Armenian-Dutch relations.

The parties discussed the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issue and the situation created as a result of Azerbaijan’s aggression against Artsakh and thoroughly touched upon the return of prisoners of war. Avinyan presented the current stage of the exchange of prisoners of war and considered this issue a priority for the Government of Armenia. He also thanked the Parliament of the Netherlands for its stance on the Artsakh issue and for adopting a resolution on the provision of humanitarian aid to the population of Artsakh.

The economic cooperation between Armenia and the Netherlands and the economic reforms in Armenia were also on the agenda. Avinyan presented the actions that the Armenian government has taken for economic recovery and talked about Armenia’s intention to enhance economic diplomacy. In this context, they attached importance to the development of trade and economic relations and highly appreciated the effective cooperation within international financial institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
