Residents of Akhalkalak held another protest today with the demand to open the land border between Georgia and Armenia. They met with Mayor of Akhalkalak Yuri Unayan and presented their problems and demands.

As reported akhaltskha.net, they don’t understand why the air border between Armenia and Georgia is open, but the land border remains closed. During the meeting, one of the demonstrators informed the mayor that they can’t pay their loans at banks and the prices of potatoes are being devalued every day.

According to the demonstrator, they are ready to spend two weeks under quarantine as long as Georgia opens its borders with Armenia and Russia and will hold another protest, if their demands are not fulfilled.

A similar protest was held on January 31. Georgia has closed its borders due to the coronavirus pandemic, and this is creating serious problems for people. In Javakhk where there are mainly no jobs, most people are earning a living by working abroad.
