In a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Yang Jiechi, a member of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China who coordinates Chinese foreign policy, called on Washington to correct its mistakes of recent years regarding its policy on China, Interfax reports, citing local media.

"China urges the United States to correct the mistakes made over a period of time, work with China to maintain a spirit of non-conflict and non-confrontation, mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation, focus on cooperation, resolve differences, and promote healthy and sustainable Sino-US relations," the Chinese politician stated.

The parties touched upon a number of international issues. Speaking about Taiwan, Yang Jiechi stated: "The Taiwan issue is the most important and sensitive key issue in Sino-US relations, and it concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The United States must strictly adhere to the ‘one China’ principle and three joint communiqués between China and the United States."

Yang also noted that issues related to Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet "are part of China's internal affairs and cannot be raised by any outside power."

"Any attempt to slander and discredit China will not succeed, and China will continue to firmly defend its national sovereignty, security, and development interests," he said.

Also, Yang Jiechi called on the United States to play a constructive role in ensuring peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, reaffirmed China's position on the current situation in Myanmar, and stressed that "the international community must create good external conditions for a proper settlement of the situation in that country."
