China has approved the second locally produced COVID-19 vaccine, Interfax reports, citing local and European media outlets.
The CoronaVac vaccine was approved based on the results of recent clinical trials abroad, although the final data from the analysis of the trials have not yet been received.
The vaccine was used in China in a vaccination program for those populations who were at high risk of contracting COVID-19.
Besides, China is already using the vaccine of the state-owned company Sinopharm, which was approved in December last year. Thus, Sinovac's COVID-19 vaccine is the second drug manufactured in China to receive regulatory approval.
Also, Indonesia, Turkey, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, and Laos have already approved the use of this vaccine in emergencies.
