It's a bunch of wrong actions that led to the war and a whole series of wrong decisions during the hostilities that decided its outcome, the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan told Sputnik, answering the question of what led to the war: the mistake of the military or diplomats.

"I think it was a bunch of wrong actions that led to the war and a whole series of wrong decisions during the hostilities that decided its outcome. That is, it should be divided into two stages: everything that was done before the war for the last 2, 2.5 years and what was done already during the war," he said.

"I think the country was not fatally prepared, or rather, it was fatally taken out of the situation of readiness over the past 2-3 years. That is, these are complete failures on the diplomatic front, they brought the negotiations to a dead end, leaving no place for diplomacy." 

"And what has been done with the army in recent years, in fact, I believe, can be qualified as consistent actions that led to the planned defeat. A significant part of the Armenian population thinks so."

"This is not a paradox. This is a natural consequence of the coming to power of people from the street who have no managerial experience, people who have no idea about geopolitical realities, people living in the current day, the current agenda, people whose main concern is the number of Facebook likes," he added.
