The Constitutional Court of Armenia on Tuesday was to consider the petition of the opposition factions of the National Assembly (NA), whereby they dispute the constitutionality of the constitutional amendments made in June last year.

Armenian News-NEWS.am was informed by the Constitutional Court that, by the petition of the respondent, the hearing of this case was postponed until February 17.

The matter refers to the constitutional amendments that came into force in June last year, as a result of which Hrayr Tovmasyan was dismissed from the post of the President of the Constitutional Court, whereas the respective powers of Constitutional Court Judges Alvina Gyulumyan, Hrant Nazaryan, and Felix Tokhyan were terminated, and they were sent to retirement.

And in August of the previous year, the NA opposition Bright Armenia and Prosperous Armenia factions had petitioned to the Constitutional Court. According to them, the NA had gone beyond its constitutional powers in the aforesaid decisions, and therefore they dispute the constitutionality of the constitutional amendments made in June last year.

Thus, it turns out that the newly elected president and members of the Constitutional Court will consider a petition which, in fact, disputes their legitimacy.
