Facebook intends to delete misinformation on COVID-19 vaccinations, the company says in a statement.

“We will begin enforcing this policy immediately, with a particular focus on Pages, groups and accounts that violate these rules,” said Guy Rosen, who oversees content decisions. “We’ll continue to expand our enforcement over the coming weeks.”

The increased moderation will be part of Facebook's new campaign to tackle the pandemic. The social network will begin to provide links to resources from health authorities with information about the infection, as well as how and where you can sign up for vaccinations. A similar service will be launched in the United States, but the company plans to expand it to other countries.

Content moderation by tech giants came to the fore at the start of the year, when some major social networks blocked Donald Trump's accounts, limiting his ability to communicate with supporters. In mid-January, Twitter temporarily blocked access to the account of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. The company later attributed its actions to the need to protect the account due to possible hacking.
